Roadmap

The AANA Roadmap outlines the areas in which the organization will do projects. The intention is that within each area well defined projects will be planned and executed.

  • Video & Animation
  • Translations, digitalization and improve internet readiness of Assamese
  • Assamese Teaching Support
  • Storytelling
  • Assamese Cultural Workshops

Video and Animation: The goal is to create videos and animations that will help Assamese children and others to learn the language in an informal setting. This is meant to supplement the formal Assamese language schools that are imparting a formal, structured curriculum to learn to speak, read and write Assamese.

In 2021, we are launching a 6-8 week summer internship program for 10-17 years old. Under this program the selected children will select and create an animated video of an Assamese folktale. The intention is that the children involved will learn the necessary skills to do the job, practice their Assamese language skills and create a video that will be used by other children for entertainment and learning.

We are also launching a program for families and friends in North America to create short videos of 3-4 minutes of day-to-day activities or events that can also be used for improving Assamese language skills.

All these animations and videos will be made available to the public through the AANA website

Translations, digitalization & improve internet readiness of Assamese:

AANA has commissioned Anil Kumar Boruah of Guwahati to translate Dr Maheswar Neog’s Axomiya Xahityar Ruprekha (অসমীয়া সাহিত্যৰ ৰুপৰেখা)to English. It will be a significant contribution in raising awareness about Assamese literature in the rest of the world. Sri Pranav Swarup Neog, son of Dr Maheswar Neog, was very supportive of the idea and has given the necessary permissions from the trust that holds the copyright to the book. The Trust is headed by Dr Nagen Saikia who also felt this book would be an excellent choice to translate to English.

This translation is expected to be completed by December 2021.

Translation Software: AANA has been advocating with Google to have Assamese included in their translation app. There is a possibility it will be incorporated by the end of 2021

Assamese School Support:

AANA has committed to provide a time slot at the AANA convention to recognize the students graduating from the various independently run Assamese teaching schools in North America. The AANA website will provide contact information on all the schools.

AANA will provide certificates to all students who are graduating from the Assamese schools.

Storytelling:

AANA has established a story telling program. Once a quarter we have a story telling session via ZOOM. These storytelling sessions are recorded. They will be made available on the AANA website
