I was born and raised in Jorhat, Assam and after getting married relocated to Middle East for my husband’s career. We lived in different countries like Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and eventually moved to Calgary, Canada along with my husband Aghore Bhattacharya and our son Ronit, a decade ago. So there are many places that I call home. In my childhood, being a Missionary School student, I was able to witness the Nuns selflessly serving the local people in various ways, which developed a strong desire within me for social services. I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity during my youth to join the Youth Wings of Rotary Club (Rotaract Club). This is where I learned to live life with a purpose. The move to Canada was another blessing in disguise. Volunteering is an integral part of Canadian culture. Here I am involved with many organizations, helping and supporting new immigrants to settle in. I also work for a project which assists the isolated senior women to enhance their ability to contribute their skills to the communities they live in. In addition to this, I have been actively volunteering with the “Assam Association of Alberta” in various positions. I am an administrative professional working for a Non-Profit Organization. We have been AANA members from a long time. In the past, I was the Regional Vice President and The Coordinator of AANA’s “Story Telling” Project. I feel privileged to be a part of the AANA Executive Committee and look forward to serving the community to the best of my ability.
