Annual General Body Meeting of AANA – July 4, 2010, Nashville TN

As part of the Assam Convention, 2010 General Body Meeting of AANA was held on July 4th, 2010, at Nashville, TN. Agenda for this one and half hour lively meeting was introduction of members with their involvements with AANA, General Secretary’s report, Treasurer’s report, Board of Governor’s election, 2011 Convention site, recognition of service/contributions, and other businesses.

Some of the discussions/outcomes are already presented above under AANA President’s Corner. The other notable discussions/outcomes are:

  • Mr. Pallav Bordoloi, a second generation Assamese American was elected to serve in the Board of Governors and replace retiring Dr. Debabrata Sarma.
  • Dr. Aradhana and Mr. Robert Satin were recognized for their dedicated service towards publishing the yearlyAssamese Directory.
  • After a discussion on frequency of Assam Convention, it was decided to hold the Convention yearly on the 4th of July weekend as per the bylaws.
  • A discussion on discount to AANA members at the Convention as practiced by most of the socio-cultural and professional organizations raised questions about AFNA and ASSNA members as this is an AANA-AFNAASSNA sponsored Convention. Suggestions were forwarded to get the officers of these three sister/brother organizations to come up with a formula, including one membership form and one web site.

At the end, Ms. Roopa Sharma, AANA Vice President, Midwest Chapter gave Vote of Thanks giving Thanks to the
Host Committee, urging all the attendees to become members of AANA by paying its annual membership dues as
the return is phenomenon, and inviting all to Chicago next year to attend the 32nd Assam Convention 2011.
